Felabration simply means celebrating the life and the legacy of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, one of the greatest musicians that have graced this world, arguably, the greatest that has walked on the soil of Africa.
It’s an annually held music festival that started in 1998 by Fela’s daughter, Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti, in the celebration and memory of her father, the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti, a human rights activist and a Nigerian musician who pionneered the Afrobeat genre of music.
It’s a one week event that is annually held at the New Africa Shrine located at Agindingbi in Ikeja, the heart of Lagos. The event that is usually held on the week of Fela’s birthday is one known all over the world, where great internationally acclaimed musicians from different countries attend and perform.
Nigerian artistes are the main performers in this one-week event, the likes of 2baba, Davido, Wizkid and many others also grace this event to always make it a memorable one.
This year’s Felabration kicked off yesterday 15th Oct, 2018 and will end on 21st of this month.
Fela would have been 80 years this week, may his soul rest in peace.
