Following widespread allegations of illegal transfer of players in the Belgian top-flight, Club Brugge’s Nigerian-born duo of Arnaut Danjuma and Bonaventure Dennis have come under trying times with their team, as the Belgian champions are at the centre of a criminal investigation in the country.
The duo are both bound to face distractions, along with their teammates, following the arrest of their coach and other prominent football officials.
News hit Danjuma and Bonaventure on Wednesday, amidst revelations that several top clubs raided as part of a police investigation into alleged fraud involving the transfer of players.
Club Brugge’s coach, Ivan Leko, is reportedly being questioned, along with well-known Belgian-Iranian agent, Mogi Bayat.
According to prosecutors, more than 200 police officers took part in raids across several countries, as they checked properties in France, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Montenegro, Serbia and Macedonia.
Bayat was arrested at his home on Wednesday. The agent is reportedly one of the main targets of the inquiry into financial fraud and money-laundering.
The investigation, which began last year, will focus on suspicious financial transactions in Belgian professional football during the 2017-2018 season.
