As Nigeria marks her 58th Independence anniversary, President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to continue to work hard to promote, protect and preserve a united, peaceful, prosperous and secure Nigeria.
The country’s number citizen said he was committed to ensuring that Nigeria became a country where the citizens irrespective of background, could aspire to succeed.
Buhari made the promise in his national broadcast aired early on Monday, October 1, to mark the nation’s 58th Independence anniversary.
Speaking further, he urged Nigerians to rise to the responsibility of shutting out disruptive and corrosive forces that hide in today ’s world of social media.
Buhari, while commiserating with victims of Boko Haram insurgency, said he was aware that the ultimate goals of Boko Haram were to destroy Nigeria’s democracy and deny children their right to education. He, however, vowed to stop them from achieving such evil goals and objectives.
In the meantime, the former Head of State praised members of the armed forces, who have been at the forefront of the battle against insurgency, promising to address flaws relating to the welfare of the troops.
