Atletico Madrid rescued a point as they traveled to Santiago Bernabeu to face rivals, Real Madrid, in the first leg of the Madrid derby, as the goalkeepers from both teams ensure that no side left the pitch with the maximum point.
Real Madrid who suffered a 3-0 defeat in the hands of Sevilla in the midweek were dealt another blow as talisman, Gareth Bale, halfway through the derby, was forced off with an injury after close to a year of being injury-free.
In the 40th minute the Welshman started to put his hand on his right adductor and stretch on the pitch; gestures that have been all too familiar during his time at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Tests will, however, determine the extent of his injury, but all indications suggest that he will not feature for at least a week, ruling him out of the Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow and Madrid’s La Liga fixture against Leganes.
The Welshman may also be ruled out of his country’s mid-October match date with European powerhouse, Spain.
This development increases the number of Madrid’s first team players on the sideline after Isco underwent an appendix operation and Marcelo picked up an injury against Sevilla.
