Nigeria’s female basketball captain, Adaora Elonu, has expressed excitement at the quarter-final play-offs feat achieved by D-Tigress at the ongoing FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Tenerife, Spain.
Elonu led the team to qualify to the quarterfinal stage of the global Basketball championship for the first time on Wednesday with a 57 to 56 point’s victory over Greece, where she bagged four assists and four rebounds.
The 28-year-old forward who rejoined the team after her stint with the Atlanta Dream in the Women NBA is optimistic of the quarterfinal clash against world number one USA on Friday.
She, however, gave credit to the coach of the side, Otis Hughley, for believing in the abilities of the girls en route the competition.
Nigeria’s victory on Wednesday makes them the first African female basketball team to make it to the quarter-final of the competition since it’s inception.
